Mountain Breeze Caravan Park

Situated on the R44, 45 minutes drive from Cape Town,  between Stellenbosch and Somerset West, is Mountain Breeze Caravan Park.  Right at the entrance to the left is the Mountain Breeze Farmstall, along with restaurant and coffee shop…lots of lovely homemade biscuits, rusks, jams and other goodies on sale.   Behind the farmstall, fat, juicy, ripe strawberries closely guarded by the ‘scarecrow vigilante’.

A short dirt road from the farmstall to the entrance of Mountain Breeze.  We were met by Janine, our hostess who took great delight in meeting our bullmastiffs.  Armed with our remote control and directions, we set about investigating the best possible site.  Janine had given us a few to choose from as October time was not their busiest, so we were spoilt for choice.  Mountain Breeze is a large caravan park, offering  permanent and semi permanent accommodation in an assortment of abodes, including park homes, caravans and log

cabins, along with an abundance of campsites for holiday stays. Most of the campsites are rustic, surrounded by huge pine trees, creating much needed shade in summer.   Unfortunately due to the prescence of all the trees, there is not much grass, leaving dusty, sandy patches covered with pine cone and needle droppings.  If you are not concerned with dust and sand, then your stay will be very comfortable.  Behind our campsite stretched ‘the forest’, giving a magic early morning and evening trundle for the dogs.  Please make sure you pick up after your dogs.  Ample bins are provided around the caravan park.

The ablution blocks are clean and large, offering more than sufficient showers, toilets and baths.  There is a radio that keeps everyone musically entertained and up to date with the latest news, albeit in Afrikaans..might be a good idea to ‘brush up’.

The inviting swimming pool area

Walking round the campsite, we discovered an enclosed pool area , offering changerooms and toilets.  Also 2 trampolines and a permanent volleyball net.  Well kept grass and flowerbeds completed the enclosure.  Further along towards reception, we discovered a huge games room that could also be hired out for events.

Unfortunately our first night was marred by an intruder who helped himself to a fellow caravaner’s belongings.  Although the campsite is surrounded by fence and razorwire, the intruders still managed to find a way in.   I think for me the only drawback was insufficient security.

Sites are provided with water, electricity, braai spot and are a generous size.   The rate we were charged for out of season was R150 per night.

Cintsa Beach Walk

It was another lazy Saturday afternoon in Cintsa. Tina was indulging in a siesta so I decided to take the dogs for a leisurely beach walk. One of the most appealing things about Cintsa is the pristine sandy beach that follows the curve of the bay for miles. Tina and I had noticed an astonishing […]
