6th January 2013 – 7 January 2013 We left the backyard of the Fiat Family and headed to our next destination, the campsite called Natures Rest. Wow, we were excited because here Dad and Mom promised we could run on the beach off lead and chase the oystercatchers and the seagulls. We loved it. I, […]
5 January 2013 In East London, we camped in the backyard of the Fiat Family just for one night, while they fixed our campervan. woof, woof. Today is also Dad’s birthday. We know he is missing his family by the wistful look on his face everytime he gets a message from his grandchildren.
Christmas Day dawned and we huddled in bed, it was very misty and cold, it had also rained the night before so everything was damp. We had planned to have an early afternoon lunch of gammon, salad and fried potatoes (good old German meal). It was the easiest and quickest for two of us. John […]
24 December 2012 – 4 January 2013 So, here we go again in the campervan. I am a walking bag of nerves. Every time we get in the van, I tremble and shake, begin to pant and salivate. Dad has now put a table between him, Mom and us…because I drool so much, I am […]
You don’t live in Hogsback. You live ON Hogsback. Or so the locals tell me. The magical settlement of Hogsback straddles the Amathole mountain range which is heavily bedecked in Afro-montane forest and is surrounded by hectares of state forest plantations. We arrived on a fairly sunny day but by evening were shrouded in a […]
I just had to share our recent experience…OMG…it was just soooooo funny Hogsback, although small, has lots of interesting roads that lead to ……….well we were soon to find out. We had consulted with our GPS first, it told us down this dirt road, led to a forest, we wanted to take the dogs for […]
I was invited to go for a hike along the famous Amatohla trails that surround Hogsback on what used to be called Boxing Day by new camping friends Mike and Judy from Cape Town. After helping with chores around the campsite, I pulled on my boots, one thing I did remember to pack and prepared […]
Somerset East is where the Botton ancestors are and John spent a happy morning visiting the graveyards and taking pictures. Very sad to see the vandalism that has taken place and also lack of any sort of care. Suppose that’s what happens when the heart has gone out of a place. Lunchtime and we were […]
We left Somerset East round noon on Sunday morning, with a fair drive ahead of us. The temperatures again were soaring but we had planned to make a few stops so that the dogs could have some time to cool off and walk around. We went through Bedford, Fort Beaufort and then Alice, before starting […]
Our campervan seemed to be settling down. We knew at some stage we would have to have it seen to in PE, but the urgency was off, so we settled into our journey with the next leg ahead to Somerset East. John has history there. His great, great, great (not sure of how many greats) […]
It was another lazy Saturday afternoon in Cintsa. Tina was indulging in a siesta so I decided to take the dogs for a leisurely beach walk. One of the most appealing things about Cintsa is the pristine sandy beach that follows the curve of the bay for miles. Tina and I had noticed an astonishing […]
